About the Course
This workshop course is designed to help you write better reports in your work.
Reports are a major tool of communication in most large organisations. They play a significant role in recording information, making decisions, communicating with the wider public and recommending change. Clear, well-structured and reader-friendly reports are often a sign of a successful organisation.
On this course we will look at the factors that lead to effective report writing in a range of situations.
Structure of the Course
The course consists of six workshops. Each workshop includes several practical activities related to reports. There will also be homework tasks.
Workshop One: Reading and Writing Reports: Structure and Design
Workshop Two: Planning and Organising Reports
Workshop Three: Presenting Information
Workshop Four: Holding Reports Together
Workshop Five: Editing and Revising Reports
Workshop Six: Review - Putting into Practice
Your own experiences of writing are crucial to this course. Please take every opportunity to raise questions, make observations and describe any writing dilemmas you have experienced.
During the course I am happy to look at examples of your writing and give comments. However, please clear this with your supervisors first.
This course is run in conjunction with my other writing course, Effective Written Communication, which focuses on shorter forms of writing in the workplace such as memos, letters and proposals. This course also includes tips on editing. For more information see http://www.ewc2007.blogspot.com/
I hope you find the course useful and enjoyable.Rob Oliver
